Game 1 vs. Michigan City Lakers

The Hounds started off their Sunday in favorable fashion as they took game one of their double header with Michigan City by a score of 7-3. That explosive Hounds’ offense that we have started to see again as of late combined for nine hits over the shortened seven innings. Also, the pitching continues to impress and keep the Hounds’ in every ball game as Ryan Taylor took control of the hill this time around.

 

The lineup card had stolen base guru Joe Duncan in his familiar lead off spot where he went one for four with a single and of course, a stolen base. Ryan Fitzgerald was positioned in the two-hole and held the big bat of the game, going three for four with two singles, a homerun and a RBI.

 

The three-four holes were made up of the Carrier brothers once again with Trent hitting third and Shane hitting fourth. Both went one for four on the day with a single while Trent picked up a RBI in the process. 

 

All-Star catcher Billy Hayes reached base twice on a walk and a booming double that plated a run. He also stole a game high two bases. Emerson Misch also reached base twice on a walk and single.

 

Richie Gorski picked up the Hounds ninth and final hit on a hard hit single, leaving him at one for three on the day. Another All-Star, Matt Wollnik did not pick up any hits, but he did drive in one on a sac fly in one of his three plate appearances.

 

As mentioned earlier, Ryan Taylor was the all the Hounds’ needed out of their pitching for game one as he went all seven innings, allowing just three runs on seven hits while striking out four. Taylor also reached base twice on a walk and a hit by pitch.

 

For Michigan City, Anthony Olund lead the way offensively by going two for four with a single and a double. Max Kerr went one for three with a solo homerun. Joe Kennedy, Jerry Hodges, Andy Kovarik and Jay Resendez each picked up a single in the contest. 

 

The Hounds scored four runs in the first inning off of Lakers’ pitcher Bob Humphreys that ultimately pushed him out of the game. Chris Delgadillo threw the remaining six innings in which he surrendered three runs on six hits.

 

Game 2 vs. Michigan City Lakers 

The Hounds’ performance in game two did not follow up the great team performance they displayed in game one by any means. Unfortunately, the Hounds suffered another bottom of the ninth inning stinger that saw them fall by a score of 3-2. All-Star pitcher Nick Constantino was terrific through all seven frames and pitched well enough to win, unfortunately the DuPage offense and defense failed to back him up. The Hounds’ offense put up a solid seven hits, but nothing was ever strung together to put up any big innings. The defense gave up two errors that kept innings alive and ultimately led to two runs that proved to be detrimental for the Hounds.

 

Hunter Morris took position as the Hounds’ backstop for game two where he went one for four with a hard hit single. Emerson Misch reached base once in his three at bats on a walk. He also drove in a run on a deep sacrifice fly.

 

The Carrier brothers once again presumed their usual positions in the three-four spots with Trent reaching base in all there of his plate appearances on a walk and two singles. He also picked up his seven stolen base of the year, which is good for second on the team. Shane followed up by going two for three with two singles.

 

Dustin Krob and Mike Kornacker both went one for three in the game with one single. Ryan Fitzgerald reached base once in his three at bats on a walk.

 

When looking at Constantino’s final line, it’s hard to believe that he didn’t pick up the win and it’s boarder line unfair that he is credited with the loss. He went six and two-thirds innings in which allowed three runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits, while striking out six. After today’s impressive performance, Constantino has brought down his ERA to an astounding 1.50 over his 28 innings this season.

 

Lakers' All-Star Joe Kennedy led his team with two hits in the ball game, both of which were singles. He also drove in one of the two Laker RBIs. Spencer Sutton went one for three with a single and a run batted in. Chase Clarkson had the final Laker hit that came on a pinch-hit single. 

 

The Hounds’ saw former teammate Christian Bokich take the mound against them for already the third time this season. His final line read an impressive seven innings in which he gave up two runs on seven hits while striking out three.

 

The Hounds’ (15-8) next game is Monday July 6th at 5:00 PM (CT) against the Lexington Snipes at High Desert Field. The Hounds currently lead that season series three games to one.
