Game three was a winner take all affair between the DuPage Hounds and the NWI Oilmen as the two teams split the first two games of the series with both teams snaking their wins on the road. After splitting the regular season series at four games apiece and then splitting the first two games of the championship series, the winner of game three truly took home ultimate bragging rights for the season. Unfortunately for DuPage, they were not the ones to take home the highly desired title as the Oilmen played a near perfect game to take the final game of the season by a score of 7-1, taking home the MCL title for the first time since 2012.

 

There wasn’t much to write home about offensively for DuPage as they had the misfortunate of facing the wrath of Oilmen starter, Jordan Petty who threw a complete game where he fanned nine batters. The Hounds did however receive great production from their veteran team leader, Mike Roberson who reached base all four times in his four plate appearances on a walk and three singles.

 

Brandon Post drove in the Hounds only run of the ballgame that came in the second inning on a base hit to center field. The only other players to notch a tally in the box score came from the duo of Eastern Illinois Panthers in Dane Toppel and Tyler Tesmond who both reached base once on singles.

 

The Oilmen did an excellent job of getting to Hounds ace, Peter Hamot early. NWI forced Hamot out of the game after just three innings in which he gave up five runs (three earned) on eight hits. Thomas Goodyear was first on in relief where he threw one inning of two run ball. Perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the game, if not the whole season was brought on when Billy Hayes trotted out of the bullpen to throw the fifth and the sixth innings. Hayes did nothing short of hold his own as one of the regular backstops for the Hounds allowed no runs on just two hits. Finally, Cole Berry capped off the season with one of his best performances of the year in which he allowed just one hit over three innings while striking out three. 

 

The Oilmen filled their box score from top to bottom, getting production out of every hitter in their stacked lineup. Chris Baker and Chase Fieldhouse led the way as far as getting on base. Both of them reached base three times on a walk and two singles. Tommy Szcazsny had the big hit of the day as he cleared the bases with a long triple. He also reached base a second time on a single. Post-season MVP, Jake Perreira went two for four with two base knocks. Finally, Chase Dawson, Stefano Belmonte, Jordan Flint and Marshawn Taylor all reached base once on base hits.
