Hound Talk

By:
Joey White just finished his junior year at Western Illinois University. He has started the season with a bang (or bark) hitting .429 and two RBIs, one being the game winner last night. White has two hits in every game he has played this year. The Downers Grove native sat down with me to talk about last night’s heroics and the season ahead.

What was your approach to the game winning hit last night?
I had two chances in the 9th and 12th inning I believe and I struck out both times. That was really frustrating, I tried to stay focused and get a single.

Hitting .429 out the gates, what has been working for you?
Staying locked in and keeping a routine. Doing the same thing in the on-deck circle; getting my timing down, and when I step in the box I’m ready and have my timing down.

Has your approach changed from the college season?
Not much, I didn’t see too much time during the college season. Summer ball is just more relaxed and I am more comfortable and at ease.

Do you like the wood bats?
I like the wood bats. I am not a fan of the BBCor. Pros use wood bats and I like to keep it like that…

What are you looking forward to this summer?
Going a long way with this team; I want to win it all. We are looking good now, want to keep it going and win it all.
