In a game marred by defensive miscues on both sides, Richie Gorski’s dropped throw in the bottom of the 3^rd paved the way both Oilmen runs, as the Hounds fell 2-1 in Northwest Indiana.

With one out in the bottom of the 3^rd inning, first baseman Gorski dropped a throw from Connor Kopach at shortstop, allowing Rob Blissitt to reach the base. Gorski, usually a third baseman, was starting at first for the second time in three games.

Two batters later, Kevin DeFillippis shot a double through the right-center gap to plate Blissitt. Jason Gasser found the same hole for an RBI triple immediately after to make it 2-0 Northwest Indiana (17-11).

DuPage County (21-9) got one run back in the top of the 4^th. Drew LaComb lead off with a single, one of only two Hounds hits on the evening, and went to second on a Gorski groundout. After advancing to third on a wild pickoff attempt, LaComb crossed the plate on Emerson Misch’s groundout.

The Hounds could do no more against Oilmen starter Danny Pobereyko, who allowed that lone unearned run in eight innings, hitting two batters and striking out nine. In the 9^th, Danny handed the ball off to his twin brother, Matt Pobereyko, who overpowered DuPage for his 11^th save of 2014.

The Pobereyko twins retired 14 Hounds in a row to end the game. Brian Lees’ 2^nd-inning single was the only other blemish in Danny’s hit column.

Josh Davis picked up the hard-luck loss, allowing two unearned runs on four hits in the eight-inning complete game. Davis walked three, hit one, and struck out two on 97 pitches.

The rain fell on Oil City Stadium about half an hour before the first pitch, and the moist infield wreaked havoc on Hound and Oilman alike. DuPage County committed four errors, making it seven blunders in their last two games in Whiting. Northwest Indiana was charged with two errors.

With the loss, the Hounds’ four-game winning streak comes to an end. Continuing are the team’s troubles on the road; DuPage County is now 7-8 away from the Dog Pound. Tuesday’s matchup was the first in a stretch of seven games in six days. Coach Sean Osborne and company are back at Benedictine University tomorrow night as they host the Lexington Snipes.
