After two days of thunderous rain, the Hounds (5-1) and the Southland Vikings (2-3) finally had the opportunity to match up for the first time this season. What is usually a heated rivalry between the two teams each and every season, the Hounds are now able to take early season bragging rights after taking tonight’s game by a score of 10-4. Tonight’s win was reminiscent of usual Hounds’ wins, meaning that everyone in a Hounds’ uniform tonight brought something to the table tonight.

 

After the first three innings, it looked like the Hounds’ were going to runaway with the contest, scoring two runs in the second and three runs in the third. There weren’t anymore scored until the middle of the ball game when the Vikings plated three runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh, putting them right back in the game at a score of 5-4. When it seemed like the Vikings stole all the momentum, the Hounds’ bats decided to silence their opponent, putting up a commanding four runs in the eighth and a final insurance run in the ninth, sealing the 10-4 victory,

 

The Hounds’ leadoff assassin, Joe Duncan, once again got the order moving by going a cool three for five with three singles, while scoring one run and stealing his team high seventh base of the season.

 

Offensive juggernaut Trent Carrier racked up two more hits tonight, giving him a team high 15 and moving his batting average up to an astounding .577 through his first six games.  Trent also dominated with his legs tonight, stealing one base and scoring a game high three runs.

 

Hunter Morris also brought his bat to the ballpark tonight, tormenting Viking pitchers out of the seven hole where he roped two timely line drive singles that led to two key Hounds’ runs. Matt Wollnik also added to hits for the Hounds while driving in three runs.

 

Pitcher Noah Masa took the mound for the second time this season and where he continued to shine. Masa went a quality seven innings and only gave up three earned runs on seven hits, while striking out six. Shutdown reliever Nick McKinney entered the game to take care of the last two innings where he gave up no runs on two hits, while striking out two batters.

 

For Southland, Cody Haver was their offensive MVP tonight going two for four with two RBIs. Jake Hickey added two hits to the hit column and Kendall King, Jesse Forestell, Chris Stevens and Chris Pikolaus each had one.   

 

The Hounds’ next contest will be Wednesday, June 10th at 5:00 PM (CT) against the Michigan City Lakers (2-2) at the Lemont High School Sports Complex. The Hounds will look to take their second game from the Lakers as they won the first matchup between the two teams on June 1st by a score of 7-2.
