For the third time in four tries this season, the boys from DuPage have fallen to the first-place Bloomington Bobcats. Tonight, the story centered on the impressive performance from the trio or arms that threw for the Bobcats as they held the Hounds to just four hits in their 6-1 victory. 

 

Dane Toppel continues his success as the everyday leadoff man as he was the only Hound to reach base in multiple plate appearances. He reached base three times in his four trips on a single and two walks. Javier Martinez returned to the Hounds Wednesday night after spending the last few weeks with the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League. Javier reached on a seeing-eye single that squeaked right between the third baseman and shortstop in the sixth.

 

Mike Roberson drove in the Hounds only run of the ballgame on base knock that also came in the sixth inning. The final team hit was collected by Billy Hayes who reached on a line drive single to right. Tyler Tesmond and Joe Engel both reached base once after drawing a base on balls.

 

Manager Ben Caple elected to go with the tall righty, Peter Hamot to start the ballgame. Although he suffered the loss, Peter put together another quality start as went five innings in which he gave three runs on six hits while striking out five. Tony Iero was first on in relief where he too was tagged for three runs on three hits over three innings of work. Tony also struck out three batters during his fifth appearance of the year. Finally, reigning MCL Pitcher of the Week, Chase Lowman showed everyone how it’s done by throwing a perfect final frame in which he allowed no runs on no hits while striking out two.

 

Bloomington shortstop, Nick Green was the offensive hero for the Bobcats as he went three for four at the dish with two singles, a triple and two RBIs. Grant Anderson also put together an impressive offensive performance after smacking two doubles in his four plate appearances while also driving in a run. Pat Mollo was also two for four with a pair of singles. Tim Smyk and Garret Shea rounded out the rest of the Bobcat offense as they both smacked a base knock in their four trips.

 

The Hounds felt the wrath of the 36th round draft pick, Kevin Malisheski for the first four innings of the ballgame as he held DuPage hitless. Over those four innings, Malisheski allowed only one base runner to reach on a walk while striking out three. Tim Smyk was first to come on in relief where the Hounds were finally able to put something up on the scoreboard. Smyk allowed one run on three hits over his two innings of work. Finally, Blade Matthews locked in the save as he threw the final three innings in which he allowed no runs on one hit while striking out two.

 

The Hounds next ballgame is Thursday, June 17th at 5:00pm against the Southland Vikings (7-7) and the Lemont High School Sports Complex. The Hounds currently lead the season series two games to none. We look forward to seeing you all there!
