Friday July 1st vs. NWI Oilmen

 

After struggling in their last two outings against long-standing rival Oilmen, the Hounds were looking to seek some long-awaited revenge Friday night in Whiting. Although it did not come easy, revenge is exactly what DuPage inflicted as the Hounds took the contest by a score of 3-2 after a long eleven innings of play. The Hounds were being shut out all the way until the top half of the eighth where they knotted up the score a two runs apiece. Billy Hayes finally put the last nail in the coffin with a one-run, RBI single in the top of the eleventh before Joey Roberson worked a perfect bottom half on the mound to close it out the hard earned win.

 

Joe Engel skated back up to the leadoff spot after a few weeks of manning the middle of the Hounds order. Joe reached base one time in his five trips to the dish on a long double. Ryan Krob and Joey Roberson split duties out of the two hole. Ryan reached base once in his two at bats on a single while Joey reached base twice on a walk and a single.

 

Javier Martinez was back in the lineup after a few days off where he reached base twice in his five at bats on a single and a walk. Brandon Post was the only DuPage player to have a multi-hit game as he went two for four out of the four hole with two singles and a RBI. The only other Hound to collect a hit was Billy Hayes whose knock came in the form of a pinch-hit, RBI single that ultimately ended up being the game-winning run.

 

The Hounds pitching continues to be one of their strong suits during these tough dog days as Christian Bokich came out Friday night with another solid performance. Although he didn’t collect the win, Christian always kept the Hounds in the ballgame during his five innings of work in which he allowed just two runs on five hits while striking out two. The red hot Joey Roberson continues to tear it up on the mound as he collected the win after finishing off the final six innings in which he gave no runs on just two hits while striking out three.

 

The Hounds will next face the Oilmen this Friday, July 5th at 5:00pm at the Lemont High School Sports Complex. The season series currently favors the Hounds, three games to two.

 

Sunday July 3rd vs. Michigan City Lakers (DH)

 

After coming off a much needed and crucial win against the Oilmen Friday night, the Hounds were looking to have some fun on the diamond before the holiday festivities commenced. After a long week of close ballgames, the Hounds exploded for 26 runs between the two ballgames to Michigan City’s 3. Game one was a slightly closer affair as the Hounds locked in the win by a score of 8-3 while game two was an absolute onslaught by DuPage who put down a whopping 18-0 beating.

 

Some highlights from the two games included Joe Engel going two for four with a single, a home run and three RBIs. Javier Martinez reached base four times on a solo shot home run, walk and two hit by pitches. 

 

Brandon Post continued his heat streak after smacking a double. He also reached base a second time on a walk. Mike Roberson drove in two runs on a base knock while his brother Joey reached base twice on a walk and a RBI single. 

 

Billy Hayes had himself a day, driving in four runs on a single and two doubles. Eric Giltz also did some serious damage as he drove in three runs after going two for four with a single and a triple. Finally, Hounds ace, Chase Lowman grabbed a bat to take on the role as designated hitter for one game where he went an absolutely impressive three for three with three singles and a RBI. He also reached base a fourth time after walking.

 

Bryan Bund picked up the win in the 18-0 blowout as he threw five innings on one hit ball in which he struck out four. Thomas Goodyear picked up his fourth win of the year in the other ballgame in which he threw four innings of one hit ball, in which he fanned two batters.

 

The Hounds next ballgame is Tuesday, July 5th at 5:00 at Wayne L. King Field against the Joliet Admirals. The Hounds currently sit in first place in the MCL at 17-11, two games ahead of the Admirals who are sitting second.
