Moving into the ninth inning, there was only a combined one run scored between the Bloomington Bobcats and the DuPage Hounds. That one run happened to come back in the top half of the fifth inning when the Bobcat’s Pat Mollo drove in a runner from second on a base hit off Hound’s starter, Peter Hamot. Bloomington’s starter, Bubba Henry attempted to accomplish the tough task of a complete game shutout, but his efforts were ultimately foiled when DuPage’s Javier Martinez slugged a double to the fence that scored Brandon Post from first, knotting the score up at 1-1 which pushed the game into extra innings. The Hounds didn’t waste much time taking care of business in extras as Joe Engel smacked a double of his own off reliever Blade Matthews to score Eric Glitz from second, locking in the 2-1 win for DuPage.

 

Dane Toppel led it off once again where he went one for five with a single. The aforementioned Joe Engel hit out of his usual three spot where he went two for five with a single and that game-winning RBI double. 

 

Mike Roberson and Billy Hayes both went one for four at the dish with a double. Brandon Post continues to keep his on-base streak alive as he reached base one time in his four trips to the plate on a single.

 

Other than Engel, Javier Martinez was the only Hound to reach base twice in the ballgame after he was struck by a pitch and then slugged that game-tying double in the ninth. Eric Giltz wrapped off the Hounds offensive production by going one for four with a base hit. 

 

Hounds starter, Peter Hamot, proved why he was a 2016 MCL All-Star after his hard-fought no decision. Peter had one of his best outings of the year after throwing an easy seven innings, in which he surrendered just one run on five hits while striking out six. John Dreveny earned his first win of the season after coming on for the final three innings in relief as he gave up no runs on two hits while striking out two.

 

For Bloomington, Kurtis Minton and Pat Mollo were the only two Bobcats to have a multi-hit game as they both slugged a pair of singles, with the latter driving in their only run. Garret Shea and Anthony Cavalleiri both went one for four with a double and Geno Cavalleiri rounded out the Bobcats seven hits by going one for four with a single.

 

Despite the no decision, Bubba Henry was as good as ever for Bloomington as he lasted an impressive nine innings in which he gave up just one run on six hits while striking out four. Blade Matthews was handed the loss after he gave up one run on two hits in the bottom half of the tenth.

 

The Hounds next action will come in the form of a doubleheader against these familiar Bobcats on Wednesday, July 20th starting at 3:00pm at the Lemont High School Sports Complex. We look forward to seeing you all there!
