The Hounds are playing their best ball of the season and it could not have come at a better time. With Wednesday’s 4-3, win over the Bloomington Bobcats, the Hounds stretch their lead in the MCL to two games over the Northwest Indiana Oilmen and four games over the Joliet Admirals for the top spot in the MCL with just three games to go. Heading into the playoffs, DuPage’s goal is to take that number one spot and lock in home field advantage throughout their potential two post-season series. 

 

Dustin Krob was back in the lead off spot where he went two for five with two base knocks. The young Matt Bottcher returned to the Hounds Wednesday and plans on being with the club for the remainder of the season. He reached base one time in his five tries on a single.

 

Joe Engel continues to make a strong case for Midwest Collegiate League MVP as had another solid game, going two for five with two singles while also flashing some serious leather at the shortstop position. Tyler Tesmond stretched his league-leading RBI total to 35 on his way from a two for five performance that included two singles.

 

Billy Hayes is starting to see his bat come around again after he went one for four with a base hit. Finally, Mr. Clutch, John Dreveny did it with the bat tonight as he drove in two runs while the bases were loaded in the seventh to plate two key insurance runs. He also reached base an additional time earlier in the game after knocking a single as he went two for four on the day overall. 

 

Hounds starter, Thomas Goodyear was by far the player of the game and might have thrown his best outing of the summer. Goodyear threw an easy five innings in which he gave up no runs on just one hit while striking out eight. Bryan Bund was first on in relief where his curveball was virtually unhittable. Bund ended up giving up just three runs on five hits while striking out seven in his three innings of work. Finally, Joey Roberson acted as the lights out closer he proved he can be as he gave up just one hit and struck out two in the final frame.

 

For Bloomington, Pat Mollo was a perfect three for three with three singles and two RBIs. He also reached base a fourth time on a walk. Nick Brunson, Grant Anderson and Zack Butler all went one for four with singles. Nick Brune was the only other Bobcat to record a hit as he went one for two with a single as well as a base on balls.

 

Brune started the game for Bloomington and ultimately threw seven quality innings despite recording the loss. He surrendered four runs on nine hits while striking out four. Bubba Henry came on in relief for the bottom half of the eighth where he allowed no runs on one hit while striking out one.

 

The Hounds next ballgame is Thursday, July 28th at 7:20pm against the Northwest Indiana Oilmen in Whiting, Indiana. As mentioned earlier, the Hounds sit two games ahead of NWI with just three games to play.
