Hammond, Ind. – July 30, 2020 – DuPage County kept on rolling as they took care of the Southland Vikings, 11-0, at Dowling Park in Hammond, Indiana. 

The Hounds improved to 15-6 with the victory as the Vikings dropped to 13-10 on the season. 

The Hounds offense broke out again for 11 runs to go with 14 hits to take down the Vikings. Trevor Davis (Eastern Illinois / Danville, Ill.) helped give the Hounds the win with an impressive performance at the plate, he went 4-4 with four singles and 2 RBI’s.

“In batting practice, I switched up my bat to get a good feel in my hand after struggling yesterday.” Davis said. “When I went up to the plate today, the ball looked like it was pretty much highlighted coming in. Overall, I felt like I saw the ball better today and I felt great.”

DuPage County starter Andrew Padilla (Webster University / Burbank, Ill.) threw five shutout frames and recorded two strikeouts to go with only two hits allowed. The Vikings' hitters struggled against the Hounds' pitching today as they only recorded two hits on the day.

“He’s very effective with his changeup, his fastball isn’t anything overpowering but he comes out there and throws strikes.” Manager Ben Caple said, “He has the ability to throw his curveball at any point in the count to get a strike. His most dominant pitch has been his changeup this year, it has opposing hitters off edge and has been effective all season long.”

The Hounds offense was on a roll today, led by Trevor Davis (Eastern Illinois / Danville, Ill.), John San Jule (Columbia University / San Luis Obispo, CA.) and Brandon Petkoff (Texas A&M Corpus Christian  / Frankfort, Ill.) as they combined for 7 RBI’s on the day. Brandon Bannon (Illinois-Springfield / Spring Grove, Ill.) finished the day going 3-4 with three singles and 3 runs scored to help seal the win for DuPage County.

“They came out very aggressive and executed two out hits, a handful of runs scored early on in the game were with two outs while being down in the count,” said Caple. “They are going down and scraping it out and trying their hardest not to punch out and make the defense make plays on them. They find holes and good things happen when you don’t punch out.” 

DuPage County will be back in action Thursday, July 31 as the Hounds take on the Joliet Generals at Howie Minas Field in Midlothian, Illinois starting at 1:00 P.M. on the Joliet Generals Broadcast Network, fans can watch the game via Facebook Live.
