The DuPage Hounds were off to the races tonight against the visiting Rockford Foresters. The Hounds had eight stolen bases on the night leaving the Foresters’ defenders on their toes.
DuPage scored first with three runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Jake Johansmeier had a solid outing going 5 2/3 innings giving up 8 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and a strikeout.
After letting in 3 runs, the Foresters' pitching staff shut down the Hounds. Pat Cashman came into relieve starter Jake Rone and gave up 2 hits in 5 innings of work.
The Foresters cut into the lead in the top of the 5th with a RBI double. Domenic Biagini tried to stretch a single that hit the top of the right field fence, but was gunned out by right fielder Tim Delany at second base. A run was scored on the play making it 3-2.
The Foresters didn’t stop there, scoring again in the top of the 6th to even the score at three.
Johansmeier eventually gave way to Patrick Bellinger that made his first appearance in a Hounds uniform. Bellinger struck out Jake Chavez to get out of a jam and keep the game tied.
Anthony Cunniff came in to replace the pitcher Bellinger in the top of the 8th. Cunniff gave up a bloop single to center that let in the go ahead run for the Foresters.
The Hounds answer right back in the bottom of the inning when Conor Philbin scored on a wild pitch.
Brent Jurceka came into pitch the top of the 9th and took the Foresters one, two, three.
In the bottom of the 9th the Hounds took a leadoff walk that ends up at third base, but no hero emerged in the inning and the game headed to extra innings.
Three hours and forty-five minutes after first pitch, Joey White helps the Hounds win in walk off fashion in the bottom of the 13th inning.
The winning pitcher was Howard and the loss goes to Kyle Klosak.
The Hounds play at home tomorrow at 6 p.m. verse the Northwest Indiana Oilmen.
