Chat with the Top DogBy: Coach Osborne is in his second season at the helm of the Hounds. He lives in Lemont Ill., but his collegiate baseball career began over 1,500 miles southwest of DuPage County. Coach Osborne played for Mesa Community College in Arizona. He also played for the Indiana State Sycamores in his college days. He is familiar with Midwest summer baseball as he also played two seasons with the DuPage Dragons. As a coach, Osborne has coached for Robert Morris University and for Benedictine University.
Coach, thoughts on last night’s game?
I shouldn’t have said anything yesterday about our gloves being solid. I’m pretty sure I jinxed our guys. (Coach said yesterday that defense has been the key to the Hounds’ early success.) They battled back and showed some life late last night. Hopefully we see that carry over today.
How would you describe this team? Or is it too early to tell?
These guys for the most part gelled really quickly. I feel like it is half way through the summer but we are only five games in (to the summer.) These guys want to be here. They always have their heads up and do what they are told.
The Hounds have started the season with two series at home. How do you think they will fare on the road?
I think it is indifferent on the road. If they come out and play hard there won’t be a difference. It is easy to get lazy in the summer and it is my job to make sure they are not. If they come out with energy, they will be fine.
