Saturday, June 4th against Joliet 

 

After falling to Joliet Friday night, the Hounds turned around and fell victim to the streaking Admirals again Saturday. Despite taking an early 2-1 lead into the fifth, the Admirals rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead at 5-2. DuPage closed the gap after a two-run seventh to cut the deficit to 5-4, but Joliet answered with four in the eighth to increase their lead to 9-4, which would ultimately seal the ballgame.

 

Despite scoring four runs on the day, the Hounds were held to just three total hits as a team. Billy Hayes, Brandon Post and Tyler Tesmond each recorded a single with the latter driving in three on his base knock. The trio also all reached base a second time after working a walk. Dust Krob, Joey Roberson and Chris Macahon all reached base twice via the walk.

 

For the second straight game, the Admirals patient approach chased DuPage’s starter out of the game before the fifth inning could be completed. Saturday’s victim was Thomas Goodyear who threw four and two thirds innings of five-run ball in which he gave up five runs on six hits while striking out four. The combination of Tony Iero and Joey Roberson allowed no runs on their combined three innings of work. It was reliever Ben Simpson who was bit by another late Joliet rally which saw the Admirals plate four.

 

The Admirals now leads the season series 2-1. The Hounds will have to wait until Saturday, June 11th to seek revenge on their rival Joliet.

 

Sunday, June 5th against Michigan City (Game 1)

 

After dropping two straight, the Hounds were looking to turn their weekend around as they arrived in Hammond, Indiana to take on the Michigan City Lakers for a Sunday afternoon double header. DuPage did exactly what they hoped to do as they won both ball games to push their record to 6-3 on the season. Despite a close ball game through six, the Hounds pulled away from the Lakers in their final at bat by scoring three to runs to give them the 4-2 lead, a lead that would ultimately hold up through the end of the seven-inning contest.

 

Tyler Tesmond found himself atop the lineup for game one where he reached base twice on a walk and a single. Dane Toppel followed him out of the two hole where he went one for four with a base hit.

 

Billy Hayes kept his hit steak alive after going one for four with a single. One of the hottest hitters in the MCL, Mike Roberson was on clean up duty where he went two for four with a single and double. 

 

The Krob brothers followed one another in the lineup with Ryan batting fifth and Dustin sixth. Ryan reached base in all three of his plate appearances after smacking three base hits. Dustin ended up going one for three on the day with a single.

 

The smooth lefty bat of Brandon Post was slotted in the DH spot for game one where he hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot. Eric Glitz rounded out the end of the DuPage lineup and reached base once in his three attempts on a single.

 

The combination of pitchers, Bryan Bund and Chase Lowman kept the Hounds in the ballgame from start to finish. Bund threw an impressive five and two thirds innings in which he allowed only two runs on five hits while striking out three. Chase Lowman picked up the win after throwing the final inning and a third in which he allowed no runs on one hit while striking out two.

 

Sunday June 5th against Michigan City (Game 2)

 

After a thrilling, come from behind win in game one, the Hounds looked to keep the ball rolling in game two. The boys in blue and gold had no interest in playing in another barnburner as they opened up the floodgates in the later innings to lock in their second straight win by a score of 14-7.

 

The leadoff duties were once again delegated to Tyler Tesmond who went one for four with a single that plated two. Mike Roberson once again found himself on base three times after drawing a walk, knocking a single and smacking a double, all while driving in two runs during the process. 

 

Ryan Krob’s hot bat kept him in the lineup for game two where he went three for four with three singles. He also reached base a fourth time on a walk. Brandon Post continued to absolutely crush the ball as he hit his second homer on the day while also reaching base three other times on two singles and a double.

 

First base duties were given to John Dreveny for game two where he went one for five at the plate with a single. Chris Macahon found his swing, which led him to go an astounding five for five with four singles and a double. Finally, the offensive onslaught ended with Zach Girard who went two for five with two base knocks.

 

The Hounds once again received excellent pitching in game two from the combination of Cole Berry and Austin Lukaschewski. Berry started on the bump and lasted four and a third innings in which he allowed four runs. Lukaschewski entered in the middle of the fifth and lasted through the end of the contest, surrendering just two runs.

 

The Hounds next contest will be Tuesday, June 7th at 5:00pm at the Lemont High School Sports Complex against the Bloomington Bobcats (5-1). The Bobcats currently lead the season series, 1-0. We look forward to seeing you all there!
