Saturday June 18th vs. Joliet

 

At first, it looked as if this game was going to be a blowout in favor of the Admirals, but the Hounds stayed resilient and fought it out until the end. Joliet jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after just three innings and that score held up until the seventh where the Hounds slowly started to chip away at the deficit. DuPage plated two runs in the seventh, one in the eight and two in the ninth with the final out of the ballgame coming on a bang-bang play at the plate that saw the tying DuPage run being thrown out at the dish to end the contest at a score of 6-5.

 

Eric Giltz led it off for the Hounds for the first time this season where he went one for four with a single. He also reached base a second time via the walk. The Hounds hottest hitter, Dane Toppel slid down a few spots into the three hole where he reached base a game’s best four times on two walks, a single and a double while also driving in one run.

 

Javier Martinez is starting to heat up as he went two for five at the plate with a single, a double and two RBIs. Ryan Krob rounded out the rest of the Hounds offensive production by going two for three with two singles and run batted in.

 

The Admirals did all of their early damage off Hounds starter, Bryan Bund who threw the first four innings in which he gave up six runs on five hits while striking out three. Thomas Goodyear came on in relief and had arguably his best outing of the year as he allowed no runs over three innings while giving up just one hit and striking out two. Finally, the mid-season emergence of John Dreveny out of the pen continues to impress as he threw a perfect eighth inning where he struck out one of the three batters he faced.

 

The Admirals currently lead the season series four games to one. The Hounds will next face Joliet on Saturday, June 25th at 1:00pm at the Lemont High School Sports Complex.

 

Sunday June 19th vs. Michigan City (Game 1)

 

After dropping the heartbreaker in Joliet, the Hounds unfortunately faced the wrath of another tough loss Sunday as they fell to the Michigan City Lakers in game one of a doubleheader by a score of 4-3. In the shortened seven-inning game, the Hounds took a 4-1 lead into the top of the sixth inning before disaster hit. The Lakers rallied to plate three runs in the top half of the frame to take the 4-3 lead, a lead that would hold up throughout the rest of the contest.

 

Dane Toppel would slide back up into his familiar leadoff spot for game one where he went one for three with a base knock. He was also struck once with a pitch. Ryan Krob and his scorching bat followed Toppel in the order where he reached base in all four of his plate appearances after drawing a walk, being hit by pitch, and slugging a single and a double. 

 

Joe Engel found himself in the middle of the DuPage lineup for the first time this season where he went one for three with a single. He also reached base a second time after walking. Joey Roberson was the only other Hound to record any hits. One of his two hits came in the form of a long, solo-shot homerun that was pulled right over the right field fence. His other hit came on a line sharp ground-ball base hit to right.

 

Despite taking the loss, DuPage starter Christian Bockich pitched an extremely efficient ballgame. In his six innings of work, Christian surrendered just four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out four. Hounds newcomer, Basil Arain threw the seventh where allowed no runs on no hits while striking out one.

 

Sunday June 19th vs. Michigan City (Game 1)

 

After falling in three straight, the Hounds were done with losing. In game two versus Michigan City, the Hounds bats came absolutely alive as they saw the final scoreboard read 14-7 in favor of DuPage. With the impressive game two win, DuPage avoided falling under the .500 mark for the first time this season and instead improved their record to 10-9 overall.

 

Dane Toppel jumped back down to the three spot for game two where he reached base in all five of his plate appearances on a walk, HBP, and three singles. Brandon Post locked down the cleanup role where he went one for three with an RBI single. He also reached base an additional time via the base on balls.

 

The star of the day was hands down Tyler Tesmond who slugged an astounding two home runs in his four trips to the plate, one of which game in the form of a first inning grand slam. Tyler ended up driving in a total of six runs in game two while also walking once. Eric Giltz reached base three times after drawing two walks and smacking a base knock.

 

John Dreveny continues to do it all after going two for four at the dish with two singles and a RBI. Finally, Zach Girard rounded out the Hounds lineup card where he reached base three times in his four trips on a walk, single and a long triple. 

 

Despite not recording any hits, the leadoff man, Joe Engel was responsible for driving in three runs after walking once, being hit by a pitch while the bases were loaded and scoring two courtesy of two sac flies. One of the Hounds trusted relievers, Austin Lukaschewski saw two innings in left field due to a short bench in game two. In his one plate appearance, Austin went one for one with a single that plated two.

 

Tony Iero started his first ballgame of the year. He was tagged for six runs (three earned) in his three and two thirds innings of work in which he allowed four hits. Peter Hamot came on in relief and locked down the next inning and a third in which he allowed no runs on no hits. Finally, John Dreveny threw the final two frames, giving up just one run on two hits while striking out one.

 

The Hounds next ballgame is Wednesday, June 22nd at 5:00pm at the Lemont High School Sports Complex against the first-place Bloomington Bobcats. We look forward to seeing you all there!
