Grey got into trouble early when he loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 2nd. After the Oilmen jumped out to a three run lead, he was replaced by lefty Brenden Delany (0-0, 1.50 ERA) who got out of the inning with no more damage taken.

 

The bottom of the 2nd inning started with a single by Kyle Philbin. After a fly out by Paul Dejong, Chase Toth had a heads up bunt followed by a walk to Matt Richer loading the bases. Kyle Hunsinger grounded to first to bring in a run for the Hounds. The bases were loaded again with a walk to the leadoff hitter Josh Keim, but a ground out ended the inning. The Hounds’ cut into the lead making the score 3-1.

 

The Hounds’ didn’t stop there. The next inning Alex Hegge singled and later came around to score on a DeJong single. Toth doubled to left to put two runners in scoring position. Richer scorched a ball to second base that was booted. That scored two more runs giving the Hounds’ a 4-3 lead. The dogs then kept rolling. Hunsinger singled in Richer after he stole second making it 5-3 in favor of the Hounds. Hundsinger also stole second and was brought in by a bloop single by Keim making it 6-3.

 

The Hounds’ running game and untimely errors by the Oilmen made Schneider exit the game for left hander Mike Hanchar (0-0, 6.75 ERA).

In the top of the 6th the Oilmen finally got to Delany, scoring one run making the score 6-4.

Hancher exited the game for Scott Jerge (1-0, 6.75 ERA) in the 6th inning. Hancher went 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits, no runs, and struck out three on the night.

 

A scary moment happened in the bottom of the inning as two Oilmen collided in the outfield. On the play Hegge scored on the bloop hit that caused the collision. All players walked away from the collision.

 

Patrick Bellinger entered the game for Delany who pitched 4 2/3 innings of one run baseball.

 

In the bottom of the 7th, Richer and LaComb had back to back singles. Jerge then walked the next two batters, walking in a run, to make the score 8-4. The next batter Hegge had a sac fly to left to bring in LaComb. The Hounds furthered their lead to 9-4.

 

Bellinger pitched 1 2/3 innings of perfect baseball who gave way to the hard throwing righty, Josh Howard (1-0, 0.00 ERA) in the 8th.

 

Brian Glynn (0-0, 0.00 ERA 1 SV) came in to close out the Oilmen. The visitors managed one run in the 9th.

 

Final: 9-5 Hounds

 

The Hounds advance to 5-1 on the season and the Oilmen drop to 3-2.

 

The winning pitcher was B. Delany, the loss to Schneider.

 

The Hounds play the Chicago Zephyrs (0-5) Wednesday, June 12 at 5 p.m.
