Hounds Make it Three in a RowBy: The Chicago Zephyrs (3-12) came to Lisle to try and knock off the 14-6 MCL leading Hounds. After scoring six runs in the final two innings of last night’s game against the Southland Vikings, the Hounds looked to make it three in a row. This is their fourth meeting with the Zephyrs this season and they have won the previous three.
The lefty Brendan Delany (2-0, 2.70 ERA) took the mound for the Hounds. His last outing was June 30 when he pitched five innings, giving up six runs against the Oilmen. The Zephyrs countered with Alan Frank (0-1, 0.64 ERA) who also pitched on June 30 pitching six innings of shutout baseball to the Lexington Snipes.
On the hot summer night the Hounds wasted little time to get on the board. In the bottom of the 1st Paul DeJong and Matt Richer both had RBI doubles and Brian Rodemoyer added a RBI single. Jason Euler had a sac fly to deep center to make the score 4-0 Hounds.
The Hounds’ bats were at it again in the 3rd inning when Mitch Gasbarro doubled to left scoring two making the score 6-0 Hounds. LaComb then doubled to right-center bringing in Gasbarro and Chase Toth doubled again to make the score 8-0 Hounds.
The Hounds didn’t stop there. In the next inning, Zephyrs’ starter Frank walked in a run and was pulled for Ryan Brown (1-0, 3rd App). He escaped a big inning and the score was 9-0.
Conor Philbin had a RBI double in the 5th followed by Richers’ second RBI double making it 11-0 and putting the rout in full motion.
The story was much the same in the 6th inning as the Hounds tacked on two more runs making it 13-0.
Kyle Dermody (1-1, 4.82 ERA) took over for Delany in the 7th. Delany went six innings giving up only three hits, two walks and punched out eight.
The final: 13-1 Hounds
Delany picked up the win and Frank got the loss. The Hounds move to 15-6 and keep hold of the MCL lead. Zephyrs fall to 3-13.
