Game one of the doubleheader is in the book. Under the overcast Lisle sky, Brian Glynn (2-0, 1.50 ERA) was pegged with the task of holding the 1.5 game MCL lead over the NWI Oilmen. Glynn’s last outing he was superb going a complete game shutout against the Lexington Snipes. He tried to recreate the magic against the Foresters as he opposed Sean Hudson (2nd game started, 6.00 ERA).

 

Glynn struggled with control in the top of the 1st giving up two walks which lead to a run. Foresters led 1-0.

 

In the bottom of the second, the Hounds’ offense started to bark. Conor Philbin and Chase Toth both had RBIs to take the lead 2-1. Philbin had a RBI ground rule double giving him four RBIs on the day (had three in game one).

 

The Foresters tacked on another run in the top of the 3rd with some poor defense by the Hounds. They escaped the inning with giving up only one run. Score was all even 2-2.

 

The Hounds were relentless against Hudson and he was eventually replaced by Blake Fiedelman (1-2, 2.54 ERA). They tacked on three runs to take the lead 5-2.

 

In the top of the 4th inning, Patrick Bellinger (1-1, 1.22 ERA) enter for Glynn. Glynn went three innings giving up two runs on three hits.

Back and forth went the game and the Hounds quickly gave the lead away. The Foresters tied the game at 5-5.

 

The game reflected the night, sloppy and slow, as the low hanging clouds hung over Benedictine.

 

In the 5th inning, Rodemoyer hit a sac fly to bring in DeJong and make the score 6-5. As the rains approached the stadium for the second time today; the Hounds hoped to take a substantial lead.

 

Bellinger was replaced in the 6th for Kyle Dermandy (1-1, 6.09 ERA). Bellinger went 2 2/3 innings giving up three runs on three hits. In the bottom of the inning, the Foresters brought in Kurt Hoekstra (1st app of the year) for Fiedelman.

 

At the end of the 6th inning the rain really started coming down. The game was delayed.

 

After a twenty-minute rain delay, Brendan Delany (4-0, 1.73 ERA) entered for the Hounds.

 

Richer lead off the bottom of the 7th with a double and moved to third on a passed ball, he then scored on a double steal to make it 7-5 Hounds.

 

Richer did it again in the 8th with another RBI single making it 8-5 Hounds.

 

Josh Howard (1-0, 5.14 ERA, 1 SV) entered in the 9th to close things down. He did just that earning his second save of the year.

The Hounds' next game is tomorrow verse the Southland Vikings at 6 p.m.
