The grey clouds from last night’s game didn’t retreat as the Hounds charged for the record books. With a win tonight, the DuPage Hounds (22-9) had a chance to capture their first ever regular season MCL championship. On the mound for the Hounds to make a run at history was Ryan Hinchley (1-1, 3.73 ERA).

 

The opposing Southland Vikings (19-14) went with Even Nietfeldt (3-1, 4.50 ERA).

 

The Hounds took an 11-1 beating from the Vikings on Thursday. Tonight is the seventh time the Hounds have faced the Vikings and the series is split 3-3.

 

The scoring started in an unconventional way with Hinchley walking in four runs in the top of the 2nd. He walked five consecutive batters. Kyle Dermady (1-1, 5.90 ERA) entered the game to try and get out of the jam. He threw two pitchers yesterday before the rain delay.

 

Thing only got worse in the inning as Dan Potempa singled for the Vikings that brought in two. After a wild pitch, another run came in making it 7-0.

In the bottom of the third, the Hounds showed a pulse as DeJong ripped a RBI double to left. Joey White followed with a single that brought in DeJong making it 7-2 Vikings.

 

The Vikings wouldn’t let up on the dogs as they tacked on another run in the 4th. In the 6th inning three more runs came across to make the score 11-2 Vikings.

 

In the 7th Drew LaComb came to the plate with the bases loaded and none away but was only able to get a sac fly. The inning was ended with a double play-ball. That could be a summary of the night, nothing could really fall for the Hounds.

 

The Hounds struggled through the game as they were chalked with the loss.

 

The final: 13-4

 

The next game is tomorrow at home against the NWI Oilmen at 6 p.m.
