Hounds Bow as Vikings Sweep SeriesBy:
The Southland Vikings won their second consecutive Midwest Collegiate League championship, beating the DuPage County Hounds 12-3 to sweep the best-of-three series.
Southland broke it open against DuPage starter Adam Dressler in the top of the 3rd with eight runs, including bases-clearing extra-base hits by Jeff Boehm (double) and Bobby Sheppard (triple). The eight-spot made it 10-0 for the visitors.
Josh Davis pitched valiantly in his six innings of relief work, allowing two unearned runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out one on 80 pitches and was the final DuPage pitcher of the season. The Hounds’ pitchers benefited from double plays in the 1st, 4th, 6th, and 9th innings.
Clayton Johannes had the best day at the plate for the Hounds, going 3-4 with an RBI. Alex Cain singled home the first run for DuPage in the 3rd. Connor Kopach scored one and stole two bases.
DuPage County finishes the 2014 campaign as MCL runners-up with an overall record of 28-16. The entire Hounds organization thanks the Lisle community for their support in the team’s third season, their best yet. We look forward to seeing you at the Benedictine Dog Pound in the summer of 2015! |
