After the weather washed out opening day plans on Sunday, the Hounds traveled back to Michigan City Monday night to take their first game of the season 7-2 against the Lakers. The Hounds’ bats showed no signs of early season rust as the boys from DuPage put up 10 hits, four of which were for extra bases.

Joe Duncan got things going for the Hounds at the top of the order, getting on base twice with a single and walk, then stealing three bases in the process.

The top of the order did not stop there as Ryan Fitzgerald dominated out of the two-hole smacking two doubles and driving in two runs.

It’s early, but it’s safe to say that the Hounds may have found their clean up hitter in Trent Carrier as he displayed his impressive power by blasting a two run homer, good for the Hounds’ first bomb of season.

Emerson Misch wrapped up the offensive dominance for the Hounds by going 2-4 with a single and double, as well as scoring one run.

The bats were not the only side of the ball to dominate for the Hounds as the pitchers displayed commanding performances as well. Tyler Jandron was given the tall task of being the Hounds’ first pitcher to take the bump this season and he did not disappoint. Jandron went five strong innings while striking out six batters and surrendering no runs on three hits.

Noah Masa came in to finish out the remaining four innings of the contest where he too put up impressive numbers by striking out seven and only giving up one earned run on one hit.

The Hounds came into tonight’s game a little short handed, as two of their players are fresh off of competing for the NCAA Division I title for the University of Houston.  Freshmen Zac Taylor and Michael Wisz are still waiting to join the team as their Cougars just finished their season this past Sunday after a tough, 20-inning loss to Rice University.  Taylor was a main contributor in the Cougar outfield, starting 37 games and batting .266 at the dish with two home runs and 15 RBIs. Wisz also contributed to the success of a solid infield, starting seven games and boasting a .971 fielding percentage.  Houston had one of their best seasons in program history, winning 43 games and earning the right to host their first regional since 2000.

The next Midwest Collegiate League game for the Hounds will be played Wednesday, June 3^rd at the Lemont High School Sports Complex against the Joliet Admirals (0-1). First pitch will be at 5:00 PM (CT)
