Seamlessness was the theme of the day for the Hounds as they cruised to an easy 9-0 victory over the Lakers of Michigan City. The offense seemed to be running on all cylinders as they put up a whopping 16 hits and the defense played a flawless game as well, committing no errors through the nine innings. 

 

However, the major story of the day centered on starting pitcher Nick Constantino who threw all nine frames for the Hounds, allowing no runs on seven hits while striking out four. Constantino has been primarily used as a late inning guy out of the pen for the Hounds’ this season so starting for him was something a little out of the ordinary. “I just came out and prepared the same way I would for any ballgame. Of course you have to have a different mindset when starting than you do coming out of the bullpen, but the general deal is always the same. Just go out there and throw strikes and let my defense work behind me. This team is stacked with defensive talent so I have no problem with pitching to contact.”

 

Zac Taylor found himself atop the Hounds’ lineup for the third straight game where he went one for four with a single and two RBIs. Billy Hayes came in to replace him as a pinch hitter in the eighth where he too knocked a single in his lone at bat, then proceeded to swipe second.

 

Joe Duncan worked out of the two-hole where he picked up two singles in his five plate appearances and stole two bases to move his stolen base total to a team high ten on the season.

 

Trent Carrier found himself in his usual three spot in the order where he smacked one single in his five plate appearances. He also drove in one run and stole his sixth bag of the season.

 

The bottom half of the Hounds’ order truly was the reason for the offensive explosion and it started with Richie Gorski who hit fifth and went two for three with two singles.

 

Next up was the other Taylor brother, Ryan, who went two for five with a single, double and two RBIs. Bobby Wenthe followed in the order and contributed one single in five chances.

 

The offensive hero of the day was Dustin Krob who went a cool four for four with four singles and two runs batted in on top of playing phenomenal defense at short. Krob also went one for one in stolen base attempts moving his season total up to three.

 

Finally, Ryan Fitzgerald rounded out the Hounds batting order, going two for four with two line drive singles.

 

For Michigan City, Joe Kennedy led his team with two hits, both of which came in the form of singles. Scott Kapers, Colin Willis, Andy Kovarik, Spencer Sutton and Dan Miller each had one hit of their own, rounding out the Lakers’ seven total hits.

 

Former Hound Christian Bokich took the hill for the Lakers and went seven innings, allowing four runs on twelve hits while striking out seven. Bob Humphreys came on in relief and pitched the bottom half of the eighth where he surrendered two runs on four hits.

 

The Hounds’ next contest will come in the form of a double header against the Joliet Admirals tomorrow, June 28th at Wayne L. King Jr. Field with the first game starting at 1:00 PM (CT). The Hounds currently lead that season series 2-1.
