Strong pitching leads Hounds passed Admirals

By: Adam Johnson

After a strong win Thursday night against Southland, the Hounds came back ready to play Friday as they beat the Joliet Admirals, 6-1. It was the bats that carried them Thursday, but Friday’s win was the complete opposite. The trio of DuPage pitchers allowed just six hits over the nine frames while allowing just one run.

Joe Engel was back atop the Hounds lineup for the second straight game where he went one for five with a single. Dustin Krob’s Midwest Collegiate League success has continued into the 2016 season as we saw him go three for four with three doubles and a RBI. He also reached base a fourth time after drawing a walk.

Nick Blomgren was slotted into the lineup as the team’s designated hitter where he went one for three with a single and a walk. Slugger Mike Roberson was back in the clean up spot for the second straight game where he went a perfect three for three with three singles and a RBI.

Billy Hayes moved out from behind the dish to play right field in Friday’s contest. He also went one for three with a run-scoring single. Hayes was followed up in the order by Tyler Tesmond who went one for four with a double that drove in two. Finally Zach Girard rounded out the Hounds lineup for the second straight game where he went one for four with a double and a RBI.

2015 standout, Peter Hamot was back on the mound for the Hounds Friday night. His six-innings of strong work set the Hounds up for success from the get go as he allowed no runs on just two hits while striking out four. Christian Bockich, one of the Hounds ace relief arms, came in to throw the seventh and the eighth where he allowed just one run on three hits while striking out two. Finally, Bryan Bund came in for the final frame where he allowed no runs on one hit while striking out one.

For the Admirals, three of their six hits came from Brendan Krob, the brother of Ryan and Dustin Krob. Brendan reached base all four times after knocking three base hits and walking once. Brendan Brundage and Satchel Daleo both reached twice in their four at bats on a single and a walk. Finally, Kyle Khoury was one for four with a base hit.

The Hounds knocked Joliet starter, Tom Jefferies, out of the ballgame early as he went just three-innings in which he gave up four runs on six hit while striking out four. Matt Butler came in for the next two-innings and surrendered just one run on two hits while striking out three. Then, the combination of Joe Davi, Adam Zuk and Rob Talarico managed to stop the bleeding over the final three-innings as they gave up just one run on three hits while striking out two.

The Hounds next ballgame will be Saturday, May 28th at 1:00 PM at the Lemont High School Sports Complex against the Northwest Indiana Oilmen (0-1). We look forward to seeing you all there!
