Friday vs. NWI Oilmen

 

After starting off the season by dominating their rival Oilmen, the Hounds success against NWI has hit a sudden lull as of late. In defense of the Hounds, they have ran into some tough luck against Oilmen pitching, who seem to bring their absolute A game to the ballpark every time the Hounds roll into town. This time it was Oilmen starter Jordan Petty who threw six innings of one-run ball before the combination of Hunter Clark and Braden Niksich shut it down out of the pen to lock in the 6-1 victory.

 

The lone bright spot offensively came from the red-hot All-Star, Mike Roberson who reached all four times in his four trips to the plate after walking once and smacking three singles. The only other Hounds to record a hit were Joe Engel and Billy Hayes whose both hits came in the form of base knocks.

 

Joey Roberson was the only Hound to drive in a run after he laid down a sacrifice bunt. He also reached base two additional times after walking. Matt Bottcher, Javy Martinez, Brandon Post, Tyler Tesmond and Zach Girard all reached base once via the base on balls.

 

Despite another efficient outing, Chase Lowman was the Hound on record for the loss. Lowman lasted five and one-thirds innings in which he gave up two runs on six hits while striking out four. The Oilmen tagged Hounds reliever, Austin Lukaschewski for four fruns on three hits while he struck out two over his inning and two-thirds. Finally, Tony Iero locked down the eighth and final frame by allowing no runs on one hit.

 

Saturday vs. Joliet

 

After dropping a tough matchup Friday against the first-place Oilmen, the Hounds were looking to makeup some ground in the MCL standings against the third-place Admirals. Unfortunately for the Hounds, they came up short in their second straight contest after falling to Joliet by a score of 5-1.

 

Joe Engel was slotted in the leadoff spot for Saturday’s game where he went two for four with a single and a triple. He also reached base a third time after drawing a walk. Dane Toppel followed out of the two-hole where he too recorded two hits that came in the form of a single and a double.

 

The only other Hound to record a multi-hit game was Mike Roberson who saw his batting average rise once again after going two for four with a pair of singles. Brandon Post was the lone Hound to drive in a run that came on a RBI single. The final three team hits were rounded out by the trio of Ryan Krob, Tyler Tesmond and Eric Giltz who all went one for four with a base knock.

 

Joey Roberson got the nod to start the ballgame where he was chased off the field after three and one-thirds innings of work in which he gave up five runs on seven hits while striking out one. Thomas Goodyear threw the remaining four and two-thirds innings in which he surrendered no runs on just three hits while striking out four.

 

Sunday vs. Michigan City (DH)

 

Moving into Sunday’s doubleheader against last place Michigan City, the Hounds were looking to do some damage to help erase the previous two losses from their memory, Unfortunately for DuPage, the day did not start off as planned as they fell in game one 11-3, which marked their first three-game losing skid of the season. However, the day was not all bad as they cruised to a dominating 13-2 win in game two.

 

Between both games, the offensive highlights included Dane Toppel who went three for eight on the day with two singles, a double and a RBI. The surging Mike Roberson collected four hits in his eight at bats on two singles, a double and a home run. Joe Engel also smashed a home run on the day that drove in two to go along with his pair of base hits.

 

Brandon Post went four for seven on the day after hitting out of the cleanup spot in both contests. His hits all came in the form of singles while he also drove in two runs. Dustin Krob reached base twice in three trips in game one on a walk and a single. Tyler Tesmond went two for five in game two after smacking two singles while also driving in three runs.

 

Javy Martinez went two for four with a RBI in game two after collecting a single and a double. Joey Roberson reached base three times in the second game on his five attempts after drawing two walks and a reaching on a base hit. Zach Girard joined in on the game two hit parade by going two for three with two singles and two RBIs. He also reached base a third time after walking.

 

Cole Berry took the loss in game one after giving up six runs on four hits while striking out an impressive seven over his five innings of work. The Lakers also got to reliever Tony Iero who surrendered five runs on five hits while striking out two over his two innings. 

 

Bryan Bund took the bump for the start of game two where he threw an excellent five and two-thirds innings in which he gave up just two runs on five this while striking out three. Austin Lukaschewski shut it down for the final one and one-thirds innings in which he allowed no base runners to reach while striking out one.

 

The Hounds next ballgame will be Tuesday, July 19th at 5:00pm against the Bloomington Bobcats at the Lemont High School Sports Complex. We look forward to seeing you all there!
