First Week Recap

The first game of the season was back and forth against the Joliet Generals. The Generals scored first but were quickly answered by the Hounds who continued to put up runs all the way to the eighth inning. The game was stopped at the top of the ninth due to darkness. A breakout inning in the seventh with seven runs put the Hounds up 14-11 and they scored one more in the 8th. Collins led the team with four hits on the day with two doubles and two singles with 3 RBI's. Woods, Salinas, Mogged, and Toppel all had 2 RBI's on the day as well. Game 2 against Southland Vikings started with the Vikings scoring first but quickly being answered by the Hounds. The Hounds kept bleeding out timly hits & scoring runs in six out of the eight innings. The Hounds were able to keep the Vikings to scoring only in two out of the 9 frames, the first and last, which made this an easy 9-2 victory. There were 9 hits on the day. Gleaves and Mogged led the day with one single and one triple each. Mogged and Botcher led the team in RBI's with two a piece. Brett Taucher earned the win pitching 4 innings only allowing 3 hits and 8 strikeouts. A few runs and one big inning led the Hounds to another victory against the Bloomington Bobcats in their third home game. The Hounds scored first in the third inning with three runs and a six run inning in the seventh sealed the deal while keeping the Bobcats to only scoring 4 runs late in the game. With 13 hits in the game, Gleaves and Verdun led the team with 3 hits and 1 RBI each. Dane Toppel led the team with 3 RBI's from a single and triple. Jake Anderson earned the win with a strong six innings pitched allowing no runs, one hit, and seven strikeouts. The fourth home game of the season was a lot closer with a 10-8 win against the Crestwood Panthers. The Panthers scored first but were quickly answered with three runs from the Hounds putting them up 3-2 in the bottom of the 2nd inning. A few more runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning totaled the 10 runs that ultimately led them to the W. Verdun led the team with hits having 2 singles and 1 RBI. Gleaves (solo HR) & Phillips led the team with 2 RBI's each. Wainscott earned the win with 4 2/3 innings pitched with three strikeouts and scattering a out a couple hits. Reeder earned the save with over 3 innings pitched and 4 strikeouts.
